Trinity’s Clark sets up Vence and Klein to lift Titans to hand Cougars their first loss of season

Casey Clark is good and sometimes perhaps…too good.

“Everything we do revolves around Casey” Trinity soccer head coach Don Schmidt explains, “When she tries to do too much she gets in trouble, but today she distributed the ball better, she set other people up, both goals she was on the starting end”.

The multi-sport athlete Clark earned her spot on the Titan’s football team as a kicker in her offseason from soccer. She recorded 31 extra points in her six appearances for the football squad. A star pupil on and off the field, Casey is a straight A student who is rich in extra circular activities such as student council and National Honor Society. Clark is a top-ranked St. Louis athlete and committed to continue her athletic career at UMSL next season.

But today she focused her energy on the pitch.

The senior midfielder played a key role in both goals that lead the Trinity Titans to a 2-0 win over the Lutheran St. Charles Cougars, handling the tough Cougar team their first loss of the season.

Clark wasn’t the only bright spot for the Titans, however, Junior forward Jada Vence used her speed to create space down the sidelines and found the back of the net first on a rebound in front of the net. The Titans looked hungry for a win all game, never slowing down.

If anything, the Titan squad outworked the Cougars more and more as the game progressed.

“We got out and here and were chomping at the bit a little and once they started believing it worked then they stayed with it,” Coach Schmidt said.

Midpoint through the second half, Olivia Klein scored a beautiful header off a corner kick to put Trinity up by 2 late in the second.

Coach Schmidt is happy with the shut out but knows there is work to be done in the defensive zone. “Defensive is a work in progress, we return three [players] and breaking in a new player on the wing,” Schmidt told us.

“The depth isn’t there, I have a couple extra forwards and I can rotate some people around but the backs have to step up and they do”.

The season is early and the Titans looked poised to make a great run.
