Carte'Are Gordon Stays Local, Adds to SLU's Future
Carte'Are Gordon is the first of the top rank prospects for the class of 2018 to verbally commit, and he decided to stay put over options such as KU and Mizzou.
Carte'Are Gordon, a 6"9 forward who was unable to finish his sophomore basketball season, still found a way to make a large impact on the basketball world this past year. With the departure of area superstar Jayson Tatum, Gordon will now be the marquee at local events.
Are is ranked 9th on ESPN's top recruit list despite only playing half a season. Gordon teamed up with 2017 superstar Micheal Porter Jr. over the summer and won a Nike Peach Jam championship while also earning himself a first-place finish with his 2016 FIBA Americas U17 squad.
Gordon spent the first half of his Sophomore year playing for St. John Vianney High School while making a somewhat abrupt decision to transfer to Webster Groves High rendering him ineligible for the latter half of the 2015-2016 season. Gordon was still able to average an impressive 20.0 ppg.
Citing personal reasons for the sudden switch, he seems to have found a home with Webster Groves. Gordon's demeanor was visibly more cheerful and excited while spending time on Webster's bench cheering on future teammates. He will be playing alongside point guard Courtney Ramey, who helped Webster Groves attempt a deep run in the playoffs, only losing to a strong St. Louis High team.
While his decision to continue playing in his hometown is important, I'm confident he has the desire to bring home the State Championship in the meantime.
